We are currently looking for a Senior Consultant to join our Public Affairs Government Relations team in our Washington D.C. office. The Senior Consultant will primarily support team members in the execution of programs and campaigns and will conduct research for ongoing projects and work with account teams to execute projects to meet client goals and objectives. A Senior Consultant is expected to keep up-to-date on key issues and current events for our clients, as well as generally in the relevant industries.

 

A Day in the Life of Senior Consultant

The Senior Consultant will develop in-depth knowledge of clients' objectives and challenges to design and implement innovative strategies to assist them through current situations and prepare them for the future. Responsibilities will include, but will not be limited to, the following:

 

• Provide research, help plan and develop comprehensive communication programs

• Write and edit a variety of client materials (e.g., strategic memos, press releases, presentations, emails, media reports, media pitches, social media posts and content, etc.) under the direction of senior team members

• Assist with ongoing program measurement and progress report development

• Research appropriate target media for clients, and develop and maintain media lists

• Develop and evaluate appropriate editorial calendar opportunities

• Address client issues thoughtfully and effectively

• Evaluate campaign results against objectives

• Assist in successfully growing existing accounts

• Contribute to the professional development and performance review process for interns, as needed

 

Client Delivery

• Manage and execute communication strategies and execute a variety of tactics at the same time

• Support multiple client teams to deliver high-quality work focused on client needs

• Create client-ready deliverables in a timely and efficient manner

• Possess strong project management skills

• Identify resource needs and work with managers to assign individual responsibilities

• Support billing procedures to ensure timely and accurate delivery of client invoices

 

Business Development

• Support relationships with clients

• Work with managers to help clients assess their program needs

• Actively participate in the generation of new business proposals and presentations

 

Practice Leadership

• Consistently seek ways to improve client service

• Mentor and coach consultants and interns

• Support the development, production and marketing of thought leadership surrounding emerging trends and issues

 

What's Needed?

• Bachelor's degree in communications, business or related field

• 2+ years of previous experience in communications agency, and/or state/federal government experience; Capitol Hill experience preferred

 

What else?

• Have a solid grasp of communications, including traditional media relations experience, as well as digital and social media program management experience

• Possess superior research, public policy, writing, editing skills and oral presentation skills

• Ability to communicate information effectively and accurately, verbally and in writing

• Solid experience with popular blogging tools, publishing software and other social media platforms (i.e., Twitter)

• Strong time and priority management skills and an ability to effectively juggle multiple client projects

• Service-oriented attitude

• Excellent interpersonal skills

• A strong work ethic and an ability to be a self-starter

• Proven project management skills and the ability to proactively support key client relationships

• Desire and ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-tasking, deadline-oriented dynamic environment with regular change

• Understanding of Associated Press Style Guidelines

• A high level of integrity and sensitivity to confidential information

• Advanced proficiency in PowerPoint, Excel and Word
