Title: DEI Policy and Research Lead Department: Department of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Reports To: Chief Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer Work Schedule: Full Time Job Summary The DEI Policy and Research Lead will work closely with the Chief Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Officer in supporting scholarly literature reviews on the impact of racism and discrimination as they pertain to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) in graduate medical education (GME). The DEI Policy and Research Lead will analyze data to provide interpretations of efforts on various areas of impact in diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout the GME community, and prepare and disseminate reports and presentations on the discoveries made through analysis on DEI progress to the GME community. The DEI Policy and Research Lead will lead efforts to apply workforce analysis tools on diversity, equity, and inclusion issues within the ACGME and the field of GME, and participate in special projects in the Department of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion. The DEI Policy and Research Lead will use skills in survey and research design to develop instruments to collect additional data that will bring awareness to the opportunities for improvement in DEI areas within the GME community. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Reviews appropriate research and literature to cull and curate innovative publications to support DEI in GME into a usable resource. Establishes a model of equity analysis that can be enhanced and scaled up to support the various DEI initiatives and research. Supports extraction of data from the ACGME’s or other instruments to collect practices of the GME community around improvement of DEI efforts at recruitment, retention, inclusion, etc. Builds statistical models, performs statistical testing, and develops protocols for all analysis and reporting programs related to reporting agendas. Supports interpretation of data and conceives of new instruments to collect hypothesis-driven data. Supports crafting external statements based on information regarding DEI data and ACGME policy. Facilitates and co-facilitates DEI discussions, events, trainings, and programs both internally and externally. Develops research studies and performs advanced statistical analyses to answer questions focused on hypothesis-driven questions that will inform DEI initiatives and policies for the GME community. Designs and produces exceptional written and impactful print- and presentation-ready research reports for a variety of internal and external audiences. Management Establishes short- and long-term goals and objectives that align with the ACGME’s strategic priorities and organizational needs. Represents the ACGME and the Department of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion to external stakeholders in the absence of the Chief and/or Vice President. Develops DEI metrics and reports as needed, but at least annually, to appropriate requestors. Remains abreast of industry trends and best practices to ensure DEI initiatives are kept up to date to meet the demands of a changing environment. Serves as the DEI liaison to the ACGME Department of Information Services to ensure regular communication and improvements to ACGME data collection. Other duties as assigned. Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required Doctoral research degree in an appropriate field of study relevant to medical education, public policy/administration, sociology, etc., or near completion of doctoral program (“ABD”). Deep knowledge of the DEI literature and ability to form multiple hypothesis-driven questions regarding gaps in areas of knowledge in medical education and health care. Knowledgeable of and engaged with appropriate professional societies, associations, organizations, and networks specializing in diversity and inclusion, health care quality, medical education, or public health. Knowledgeable and experienced with the academic publication process. Excellent communicator, both verbally and written; able to provide recent writing samples. Experience in aligning research questions with appropriate statistical models, algorithms, and techniques to move beyond answering questions focused on what happened to answering questions focused on the why, how, and what now. Experience in both qualitative and quantitative research methodology and application. Strong organizational skills and the ability to leverage multiple tasks and project simultaneously. Highly motivated self-starter with the capability to work in teams that may involve internal and external collaborators and scholars. Preferred Experience in legal or other policy or governmental affairs. An engaging, personable style of interaction and strong consensus-building skills. Knowledgeable of the impacts on workplace and sociological conditions on people, especially members of under-represented groups. Has survey design experience to support the research effort in DEI. Equipment Position requires the significant use of standard office equipment, such as a computer, keyboard, mouse, photo copier, fax machine, telephone. Working Conditions Most of the work of the DEI Policy and Research Lead is normally done in the ACGME office with the typical physical demands of an office environment. During the COVID-19 pandemic, ACGME employees are working remotely until further notice. The DEI Policy and Research Lead will need to be able to efficiently and effectively work remotely. When ACGME employees return to the office in Chicago, the DEI Policy and Research Lead will need to be physically present on a day-to-day basis. While performing the duties of this job, the DEI Policy and Research Lead: Will frequently be required to participate in meetings via Zoom or other video conferencing platforms. Note, this is particularly relevant while working remotely. Will frequently be required to sit in meetings for long periods of time. Will frequently be required to sit and work for extended periods of time at a computer terminal using various computer programs and other computer tools.
