Title: Data Analyst Department: Department of Information Services Reports To: Manager, Data Analytics, Quality, and Reporting Work Schedule: Full Time Job Summary The Data Analyst assists in maintaining data integration, data processing, and data analysis to meet the strategic and operational needs of the organization. Applications and Data Analysis Overview The Department of Information Services’ Applications and Data Analysis group is responsible for the development and ongoing maintenance of all data collection systems for residency program accreditation and outcomes. The group also provides
project management, quality assurance testing, analytical reporting, and support for these data systems and data acquisition tools. Currently the group is taking a leadership role in the visual display of data and its use in accreditation. Primary Duties and Responsibilities Work with the operations data team to assist in the maintenance and quality of data used in the annual review of residency programs. Work with the operations data team in the data preparation, reconciliation, reporting, and analytic tasks required to meet business needs and requirements. Assist in the design of dashboard representation of various data, clearly showing data driven cut-offs and threshold criteria. Assist in the implementation of testing strategies to ensure consistency among data collection sources, data warehouse database, reports, and dashboards. Identify root cause of data integrity issues and implement corrective action through strong partnerships with development team and database administrators.
Provide sophisticated analysis and output in the form of reports and data tables to meet operational needs. Work with multiple large datasets (primarily SQL and SAS) as needed to drive analytic, graphical, and dashboard solutions. Develop, code, and maintain SQL/SAS applications that are used for data analysis and reporting. Maintain analytic documentation. Other duties as assigned. Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Bachelor’s degree in computer science, statistics, public health, or research-related field required; Master’s degree preferred. Must have two to three years of experience in data management and data analysis; data management experience related to medical education or health care preferred. Must have an understanding of database structure and design. Must have demonstrated proficiency using analytic software; specific experience using SQL is required, SAS preferred. Must be able to generate creative solutions to existing data analysis and data display problems; must
have experience with a business intelligence software, Power BI preferred. Must be able to conceptualize and perform data analysis and have experience generating custom reports; knowledge of Excel required. Must possess excellent interpersonal skills and be able to work as a team player. Must be comfortable with ambiguity, variability, and change in business requirements. Must possess the skills to generate multiple effective solutions that address specific data and analytic needs. Must be comfortable generating multiple solutions to data analysis and data display challenges. Must be able to work on multiple projects simultaneously; must be able to shift priorities as organizational demands require. Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment. Must be able to manage multiple projects independently and prioritize tasks. Must be detail oriented with the ability to pay close attention to accuracy of work. Must be able to communicate clearly, effectively, and appropriately for the intended
purpose and audience. Equipment Position requires the significant use of standard office equipment, such as a computer, keyboard, mouse, photo copier, fax machine, telephone, etc. Working Conditions Most of the work of the Data Analyst is normally done in the ACGME office with the typical physical demands of an office environment. During the COVID-19 pandemic, ACGME employees are working remotely until further notice. The Data Analyst will need to be able to efficiently and effectively work remotely. Some travel may be required. While performing the duties of this job, the Data Analyst: Will frequently be required to participate in meetings via Zoom or other video conferencing
platforms. Note, this is particularly relevant while working remotely. Will frequently be required to sit and work for extended periods of time at computer terminal using various computer programs and other computer tools. Must be willing and able to travel if required.
