Job Summary:
The Senior Director for Accreditation and Recognition serves to support the department’s activities for performance, strategic planning, process and quality improvement, efficiency, project and data management, and the financial budget. The Senior Director, in partnership with senior leadership, establishes, guides, and manages administrative aspects of the Accreditation and Recognition functions.
This executive works with the Chief of Accreditation and Recognition, Senior Vice Presidents for Accreditation and Field Activities, Executive Directors of Accreditation and Recognition, and department staff in their efforts related to strategic planning, operations, finance, data management, performance metrics, process redesign and quality improvement. The Senior Director will provide day-to-day support in areas related to ACGME accreditation and recognition and in areas of organizational management not associated with accreditation.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
Leads operations, administration, and finance processes for the Department of Accreditation, Recognition and Field Activities.
Assists the Chief of Accreditation and Recognition, Senior Vice Presidents, Executive Directors and their staff engaged in hires, supervision and professional development, and managing workload and workflow. Responsible for the facilitation of the structure, staff performance and assessment, classification, promotion, and staff compensation.
Facilitates and supervises the development, revision, and implementation of administrative and operational policies and procedures within the Department in support of the accreditation process and the office operations budget.
Creates and manages financial processes and systems within budget while delivering required outcomes.
Identifies and facilitates process redesign and quality improvement changes in fiscal, policy, and data management services provided to constituents.
Provides input to the development of accreditation and recognition strategy and policies.
Works closely with internal and external subject matter experts driving improvement in collecting, storing, analysis and dissemination of accreditation and recognition data.
Maintains an in-depth and up-to-date knowledge of ways technology may impact how data are gathered, stored, accessed and analyzed and works closely with the information technology team and relevant stakeholders (i.e. ED teams and end-users) in the transformation of the Accreditation Data System.
Collects, analyzes, monitors, and reports statistical information about the actions of the Review and Recognition Committees for ACGME purposes.
Develops and maintains performance metrics for the Department of Accreditation, Recognition, and Field Activities.
Provides project management for programs and projects within the Department.
Provides input and carries out the strategy as set by the Chief Accreditation and Recognition Officer and Senior Vice Presidents of Accreditation and Field Activities.
Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Minimum of a Master’s degree, preferably in business administration, health care administration or finance.
A minimum of eight to 10 years of progressive leadership experience in administration, operations, finance and process improvement.
Experience in a nonprofit or healthcare environment preferred.
Preferred knowledge of Graduate Medical Education (GME) and a clear understanding of the role and impact the ACGME has on GME.
Excellent interpersonal, leadership and coaching skills. Advanced interpersonal skills are necessary in order to effectively represent accreditation within the ACGME and to external stakeholders, often in creative problem solving.
Ability to quickly gain trusted partner status within the organization.
Ability to influence, persuade and inspire others to take action, to buy-in and be engaged.
Demonstrated ability to serve as a successful partner to all levels of management including senior leadership.
Ability to engender respect and effectively interact with professional staff, physician leaders, and other educators involved in graduate medical education.
Ability to effectively manage the variable elements of the role spanning from day-to-day operations to strategic planning and implementation.
Advanced analytical skills necessary in order to develop and implement new Accreditation systems, techniques, and/or procedures; determine personnel needs; develop and administer department expense and revenue budgets; and prepare complex special and recurring reports and analysis.

Equipment:
Position requires the significant use of standard office equipment, such as a computer, keyboard, mouse, photo copier, fax machine, telephone, etc.
Working Conditions:
Most of the work of the Senior Director, Accreditation and Recognition is normally done in the ACGME office with the typical physical demands of an office environment. During the COVID-19 pandemic, ACGME employees are working remotely until further notice. The Senior Director, Accreditation and Recognition will need to be able to efficiently and effectively work remotely.
This position requires weekend work in conjunction with the attendance at Review Committee meetings, and a heavy time commitment, often exceeding normal work hours, for meeting preparation.

While performing the duties of this job, the Senior Director, Accreditation and Recognition:
Will frequently be required to participate in meetings via Zoom or other video conferencing platforms. Note, this is particularly relevant while working remotely.
Will frequently be required to sit in meetings for long periods of time.
Will frequently be required to sit and work for extended periods of time at a computer terminal using various computer programs and other computer tools.
Must be willing and able to travel if required.
