Distance Learning Specialist

The Distance Learning Specialist position will join an integrated team of distance education and production experts to collaboratively produce the ACGME’s synchronous and asynchronous education (i.e. courses, conferences, tools) for the Office of Distance Learning. This includes collaborating with DL and AV staff, as well as subject matter experts, to deliver webcasts, livestreams, virtual conferences and meetings.  The Distance Learning Specialist will be responsible for recording and editing on-demand events, videos, podcasts and other educational resources housed in Learn@ACGME, the organization’s online learning management system. The Distance Learning Specialist will also be responsible for managing resources in Learn@ACGME, including key performance indicator and other reports, monitoring learner/faculty needs, and maintaining its content-based micro-sites.

 

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Facilitate live Distance Learning (DL) events such as webcasts, webinars, livestreams, video conferences presentations (35%)
    1. Assist subject matter experts (SMEs) with adapting presentational and instructional material for distance delivery
    2. Develop resources for SMEs on how to use live event and supporting technology (e.g. Intrado, Zoom, Vimeo Live, Learn@ACGME)
    3. Provide media/event design and troubleshooting expertise during pre-production and delivery process
    4. Facilitate/support live distance learning events (e.g. Equity Matters and Well-Being Speakers’ series, the Chief Resident leadership Program, Faculty Development workshops) as needed 
  • Manage asynchronous distance learning resources such as on-demand webcasts, asynchronous courses and community forums in Learn@ACGME, our learning management system (3%)
    1. Train SMEs in use of Learn@ACGME and other educational platforms systems
    2. Provide support to learners access and other logistic issues that arise with learners using educational technology systems
    3. Track learner support in Learn@ACGME and the DL support inbox
    4. Manage data in and respond to technical support requests regarding the DOCC and AWARE apps, podcasts and other DL resources
    5. Develop reports on usage of Distance Learning’s systems (Learn@ACGME, LibSyn podcast platform, Intrado), including key performance indicators 
  • Collaboratively create online courses, videos, podcasts, and other multimedia for the Office of Distance Learning (35%)
    1. Participate in the team-based DL design process, including scripting, storyboarding, quality assurance and other pre-production/post-production activities
    2. Assist in the development of online courses, forums and content/community-specific microsites for ACGME organizational initiatives
    3. Record, review and edit video, audio and other multimedia produced by the DL Office
    4. Other duties as assigned.

Education, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Media Production, Broadcast Journalism or related field required.
  • Experience in planning and delivering web-based broadcasts, webcasts and/or livestreams, preferably experience using a broadcast studio TriCaster.
  • Must have experience with a variety of audio and video production tools (e.g., Audacity, Zencastr, Camtasia).
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint and Adobe Acrobat required.

Preferred

  • Experience with Adobe Premiere, Audition, Photoshop and other elements of the Creative Suite desired.
  • Experience with multiple online learning formats, including learning management systems (e.g. Canvas, Blackboard) preferred.
  • Helpful to have experience of HTML and with web authoring tools (e.g., Articulate).
  • Have a demonstrated history of working in close collaboration with diverse teams.
  • Clearly and concisely deliver information.
  • Work with and present to a wide variety of stakeholders.
  • Display a customer-oriented approach in communications.
  • Demonstrate strong editing skills, with consistent accuracy.
  • Demonstrate superior organizational and workflow management skills, as well as have proven project management skills.
  • Demonstrate strong attention to detail and excellent follow-up skills.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work under tight timelines, as well as to balance multiple projects and priorities simultaneously.
  • Demonstrate a strong work ethic and the flexibility to both work independently and as a team member.
  • Exercise good judgement, common sense, and dependability.
  • Work independently with minimal supervision.

Equipment

Position requires the significant use of standard office equipment, such as a computer, keyboard, mouse, photo copier, fax machine, telephone, etc.

 

Working Conditions 

  • Most of the work of the Distance Learning Specialist is normally done in the ACGME office with the typical physical demands of an office environment. During the COVID-19 pandemic, ACGME employees are working remotely until further notice. The Distance Learning Specialist will need to be able to efficiently and effectively work remotely.
  • Travel to the ACGME Annual Educational Conference for the purpose of course/video production will be required annually.
  • Occasional travel to professional development events will be required.

While performing the duties of this job, the Distance Learning Specialist:

 

  • Will frequently be required to participate in meetings via Zoom or other video conferencing platforms. Note, this is particularly relevant while working remotely.
  • Will frequently be required to sit in meetings for long periods of time.
  • Will frequently be required to sit and work for extended periods of time at a computer terminal using various computer programs and other computer tools.
