The Environment, Health and Safety Program is responsible for environmental protection, occupational safety and health, protective services, and emergency preparedness programs at National Cancer Institute at Frederick and Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research.

KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develops, administers, and implements environmental and occupational safety and compliance programs in accordance with governmental requirements
- Reviews proposed use of workspace, conducts workplace safety and compliance assessments, and produces recommendations for engineering and exposure controls, and/or programs to ensure regulatory compliance
- Conducts hazard assessments and ensures implementation of EHS Procedures
- Performs necessary compliance exposure monitoring
- Inspects, audits, and reviews facilities and laboratory operations
- Provides in-person training on EHS topics
- Manages compliance with various environmental permits
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:
- Possession of Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university according to the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or four (4) years relevant experience in lieu of degree. Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency
- In addition to the education requirement, a minimum of eight (8) years of progressively responsible experience, with at least 5 years experience in an EHS position performing inspections and consulting with/providing EHS solutions to the regulated community
- Generalized safety and compliance knowledge of occupational safety applicable biomedical research, GMP production, and industrial safety
- Must have and maintain a valid State Driver's License issued by the state in which the candidate resides. Must have no more than 3 demerit points in the previous twelve (12) months or five (5) demerit points in the preceding thirty-six (36) months as determined by the Leidos Biomed Use of Government Owned or Leased Vehicles Policy
- Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

- Possession of a Master of Science in Environmental Science, Biomedical Science, Industrial Hygiene or related degree from an accredited college/university according to the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or six (6) years relevant experience in lieu of degree. Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency
HAZARDS
- This position is subject to atmospheric conditions that would require the usage of a respirator, requiring a medical clearance
- This position is subject to the environmental conditions such as working outdoors, high humidity areas indoors, dampness and chilling, dry atmospheric conditions, etc. as part of the job
- This position is subject to working with radioactive material and requires the employee to become an approved radiation worker
