The Biopharmaceutical Development Program (BDP) of Leidos Biomedical Research, Inc. supports the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and other government agencies through the development of novel agents for first-in-man clinical studies. Leidos Biomedical Research is leading multiple on-going Immunotherapy, Gene Therapy and Cell Therapy projects. The position will play a critical role in supporting preclinical and IND-enabling activities to advance monoclonal antibody-based immunotherapy projects. This Scientist will join the Development team and work on cell culture, antibody design, and antibody production.

KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES
  • The candidate will work with members of team to generate antibodies for preclinical and clinical studies. Plays critical role in cell culture process development and antibody production in antibody-based immunotherapy projects
  • Strong knowledge and skill in molecular biology, cell culture, antibody engineering, expression vector design, transient transfection, antibody and protein expression in mammalian cultures
  • Experience with molecular biology techniques (PCR, DNA/RNA isolation, plasmid prep, gel extraction, cloning, Sanger sequence analysis and NGS sequence analysis)
  • Expertise in protein biochemistry and assays (WB, ELISA, FACS, BLI, binding kinetics)
  • Ability to work with multiple candidate molecules sequences and proteins in timeline-driven schedules
  • Excellent trouble shooting and problem-solving capabilities and attention to detail, planning, and organizational skills
  • Assess and report experimental data, with little or no guidance, with understanding of its implications on the overall project
  • Responsible for project progress, material management, timelines and deliverables. Preparation of technical reports and publication materials
  • Function as a subject matter expert, provide latest technical and scientific information to the team

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:
  • Possession of a PhD degree from an accredited college or university according to the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or eight (8) years of related experience. Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency
  • In addition to the education requirement, a minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible experience
  • Hands-on experience with mammalian cell culture and transient protein expression
  • Expertise in gene manipulation, vector design, and antibody engineering areas
  • Ability to perform data analysis, draw conclusions, and effectively communicate the results to the manager and team
  • Work independently under the instructions in team environment
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates with these desired skills will be given preferential consideration:
  • Knowledge of molecular biology, protein expression and mammalian cell culture experience
  • Ability to work well in a collaborative manner with other scientists in the project, with a strong work ethic and an entrepreneurial spirit
  • Self-motivated and self-organizer, dedicated, meticulous hands-on habits, keen attention to detail with can-do attitude
  • Excellent communication, data analysis and presentation skills
  • Positive interpersonal skills with the ability to interact with individuals from a variety of levels and function
