The Frederick National Laboratory is a Federally Funded Research and Development Center (FFRDC) sponsored by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and operated by Leidos Biomedical Research, Inc. The lab addresses some of the most urgent and intractable problems in the biomedical sciences in cancer and AIDS, drug development and first-in-human clinical trials, applications of nanotechnology in medicine, and rapid response to emerging threats of infectious diseases.

Position Overview:
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The AIDS and Cancer Virus Program (ACVP) is an integrated, multidisciplinary program that seeks to improve the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of HIV infection and AIDS-related tumors through basic, applied, and translational research, including development and sharing of novel experimental models, reagents, and analytical methods. The Program consists of several research Sections headed by Principal Investigators, whose work spans from fundamental molecular virology through in vitro studies, to in vivo studies in non-human primate (NHP) models. The ACVP also has eight Research Support Core Groups (Cores) that perform independent research and provide critical and often unique technical support capabilities to ACVP laboratories and other laboratories within the NCI and NIH, and to extramural investigators.
KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES
The successful applicant will join a highly interactive and collaborative program that emphasizes the development and use of NHP models of AIDS to study HIV transmission, pathogenesis, prevention, and treatment. The Project Manager I will facilitate the timely and accurate execution of these intensive NHP research studies according to the designs and requirements of animal study protocols developed by the ACVP's principal investigators and their scientific personnel. The successful applicant will be proactive, highly organized, and possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Specific job duties and responsibilities will include:
- Working with ACVP investigators, Core lab staff, and diverse animal care staff to schedule and coordinate animal treatment and sampling events
- Providing ongoing coordination for multiple concurrent studies to ensure timely availability and transportation to the animal facility as needed of supplies and reagents, and to ensure staffing coverage for study events
- Ensuring all study treatments and sample collections are consistent with Animal Care and Use Committee (ACUC)-approved protocols
- Ensuring accurate study documentation and recordkeeping within the Program's laboratory information management system
- Maintaining updated plots of select, key data sets generated by Cores
- Assisting with ACUC protocol preparation
- Preparing Institutional Biosafety Committee (IBC) document submissions
- Serving as Executive Secretary for the Program's NHP Study Scientific Review Committee
- Scheduling, attending, and recording minutes of meetings between ACVP investigators and animal care staff
- Providing assistance for submission of manuscripts to scientific journals for peer review and publication
- Serving as the ACVP liaison for the annual biological materials inventory
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:
- Possession of Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university according to the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or four (4) years relevant experience in lieu of degree. Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency
- No work experience required with a Bachelors degree
- Excellent organizational skills
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Ability to obtain and maintain security clearance
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates with these desired skills will be given preferential consideration:
- Proficiency with MS Excel, MS Outlook, GraphPad Prism, and Adobe Illustrator
- Prior experience with animal models of human disease
