The Frederick National Laboratory is a Federally Funded Research and Development Center (FFRDC) sponsored by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and operated by Leidos Biomedical Research, Inc. The lab addresses some of the most urgent and intractable problems in the biomedical sciences in cancer and AIDS, drug development and first-in-human clinical trials, applications of nanotechnology in medicine, and rapid response to emerging threats of infectious diseases.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Molecular Characterization Laboratory (MoCha) is part of Leidos Biomedical Research's Clinical Research Directorate (CRD) at the Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research. The MoCha Laboratory is responsible for providing high-level research in support of the NCI-Cancer Diagnostics Program (CDP) within the Division of Cancer Treatment and Diagnosis (DCTD). MoCha is charged with the development and application of genomic and protein based assays for use in medical research and diagnostics for DCTD-sponsored national extramural clinical trials.

KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES
The Clinical Research Associate I (RA) will:
- Assist with the operation of the CLIA-certified MoCha Histology laboratory aimed at the evaluation of xenograft mouse models, in vitro cell culture models, and clinical samples
- Accession all specimens received by MoCha Histology laboratory and maintain tracking database
- Perform basic histology procedures to include, but not limited to, tissue trimming, processing, embedding, microtomy, H&E staining, and coverslipping
- Maintain daily lab records, follow Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), and adhere to all laboratory safety guidelines
- This position is located in Frederick, MD
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:
- Possession of a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university according to the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) in a biomedical field (ie: biology, biochemistry or genetics) or four (4) years equivalent experience in the appropriate field in lieu of degree. License/certification as a histotechnician or histotechnologist is preferred (HT or HTL). Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency
- In addition to education requirement, two (2) years progressively responsible job related biomedical experience
- Experience in a laboratory environment
- Ability to maintain accurate and detailed records and work effectively in a team-oriented environment
- Ability to keep computer records and maintain data in computer-based applications/databases
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to communicate with researchers in a demanding scientific environment
- Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates with these desired skills will be given preferential consideration:
- Knowledge of basic histology skills and techniques
- Familiarity with regulatory guidelines (i.e. CLIA, CAP, GLP)
- Working knowledge of Windows-based computer operating systems
- Good communication skills
- Highly motivated and a quick learner of new technologies
