The Frederick National Laboratory is a Federally Funded Research and Development Center (FFRDC) sponsored by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and operated by Leidos Biomedical Research, Inc. The lab addresses some of the most urgent and intractable problems in the biomedical sciences in cancer and AIDS, drug development and first-in-human clinical trials, applications of nanotechnology in medicine, and rapid response to emerging threats of infectious diseases.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Frederick National Laboratory is dedicated to improving human health through the discovery and innovation in the biomedical sciences, focusing on cancer, AIDS and emerging infectious diseases.
The Bioinformatics and Computational Science (BACS) directorate works collaboratively and helps to fulfill the mission of Frederick National Laboratory in the areas of biomedical informatics and data science by developing and applying world leading data science and computing technologies to basic and applied biomedical research challenges, supporting critical operations, developing and delivering national data resources, and employing leading-edge software and data science.
The Advanced Biomedical and Computational Science (ABCS) group is a part of BACS within Leidos Biomedical Research as a technological hub of translational scientists with expertise in structural biology, biology, chemistry, imaging, and informatics. ABCS develops state-of-the-art technologies in large-scale data modeling, analysis, and integration and supports the scientific research at the Frederick National Lab by helping translate scientific questions to technical solutions for cancer and biomedical research.
The Data Solutions and Systems Biology (DSSB) group in ABCS strives to streamline and provide innovative solutions for the NCI/NIH community to access and use biological information collected across different sources and formats. Integrating diverse data sources to streamline project requests and analysis workflows, enabling disease agnostic access and analysis, variant impact annotation, identifier conversions across species, and merging clinical and research data enabling translation from basic to the goal of precision medicine.
KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES
This position provides project management for the Advanced Biomedical Computational Scientific technical and scientific initiatives. Specific responsibilities include the following:

KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES
This position provides project management for the Advanced Biomedical Computational Scientific technical and scientific initiatives. Specific responsibilities include the following:
- Work as part of a dynamic team to provide general project management and reporting support across ABCS scientific projects
- Perform subcontract management including tracking deliverables and costs and approving invoices
- Work closely with ABCS Director to coordinate strategic vision, program support, logistical and training activities
- Develop training and networking opportunities for ABCS staff to collaborate internally and with other BIDS/FNL and NCI colleagues
- Work collaboratively to support bioinformatics, imaging, structural biology, programming and data integration related projects in ABCS
- Work closely with Program Administration (PAO), Program Management, Subcontracts and other FNL groups
- Work with FNL and NCI program leads to refine and update task order requirements as necessary
- Coordinate hiring and staffing related activities within ABCS
- Perform stakeholder management, including tracking activities and ensuring timely communication for ABCS developments
- Support task order management efforts for ABCS to include development of technical documents and financial reporting deliverables
- Support financial management for ABCS to include budget management, resource estimates, forecasts, and reporting
- Provide proactive communication about projects and staff to all relevant stakeholders
- Follow established procedures and suggest updates to enhance efficiency and effectiveness of procedures
- Be disciplined in generating necessary reports and tracking tasks and issues
- Be able to work independently
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:
- Possession of a Master's degree from an accredited college or university according to the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) in computer science, Bioinformatics, Biomedical Science or a related field or six (6) years relevant experience in lieu of degree. Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency
- In addition to the education requirement, 0-2 years of progressively responsible experience
- A minimum of two (2) years project management experience in a scientific or technical environment
- Experience with all aspects of project management in a scientific environment
- Experience with reporting scientific and technical accomplishments
- Experience leading successful collaborative efforts involving multiple stakeholders
- Self-motivated and results-oriented, able to effectively handle multiple projects concurrently
- Ability to multi-task in complex/dynamic operating environment
- Ability to identify issues and apply problem solving skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates with these desired skills will be given preferential consideration:
- Possession of a Ph.D. in a computer science, Bioinformatics, Biomedical Science or a related field
- A minimum of eight years of experience in a scientific or technical environment
- Familiarity with cancer biology
- Programming expertise, especially in a Linux environment
- Experience working in a matrix-management environment
- Experience developing and maintaining scientific collaborations
