PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
Within Leidos Biomedical Research Inc., the Clinical Monitoring Research Program Directorate (CMRPD) provides high-quality comprehensive and strategic operational support to the high-profile domestic and international clinical research initiatives of the National Cancer Institute (NCI), National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), Clinical Center (CC), National Heart, Lung and Blood Institute (NHLBI), National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS), National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences (NCATS), National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS), and the National Institute of Mental Health (NIMH). Since its inception in 2001, CMRPD's ability to provide rapid responses, high-quality solutions, and to recruit and retain experts with a variety of backgrounds to meet the growing research portfolios of NCI, NIAID, CC, NHLBI, NIAMS, NCATS, NINDS, and NIMH has led to the considerable expansion of the program and its repertoire of support services. CMRPD's support services are strategically aligned with the program's mission to provide comprehensive, dedicated support to assist National Institutes of Health (NIH) researchers in providing the highest quality of clinical research in compliance with applicable regulations and guidelines, maintaining data integrity, and protecting human subjects. For the scientific advancement of clinical research, CMRPD services include comprehensive clinical trials monitoring, regulatory, pharmacovigilance, protocol navigation and development, and programmatic and project management support for facilitating the conduct of 400+ Phase I, II, and III domestic and international trials on a yearly basis. These trials investigate the prevention, diagnosis, treatment of, and therapies for cancer, influenza, HIV, and other infectious diseases and viruses such as hepatitis C, tuberculosis, malaria, and Ebola virus; heart, lung, and blood diseases and conditions; parasitic infections; rheumatic and inflammatory diseases; and rare and neglected diseases. CMRPD's collaborative approach to clinical research and the expertise and dedication of staff to the continuation and success of the program's mission has contributed to improving the overall standards of public health on a global scale.
The Clinical Monitoring Research Program Directorate (CMRPD) provides specialized support for initiatives and special projects sponsored by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases Division of Clinical Research (DCR). CMRPD is responsible for the management and oversight of NIAID clinical research studies related to COVID-19 and other emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases.
KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES
The schedule for this position is 4 x 10hr shifts/week on Mon-Fri, 6:30am - 5:00pm, rotating based on clinic/research needs (will be provided schedule at least 1 month in advance), no weekends/nights/federal holidays, 100% on-site (no telework)

- Advocates for patient care needs
- Triages patient concerns and medical conditions
- Coordinates and schedules patient protocol visits
- Schedules Labs, diagnostic tests, consults
- Updates system calendars with patient schedules
- Works with the travel team to arrange patient travel and lodging
- Communicates the schedule to patients
- Obtains consents for the release of medical records
- Facilitates patient visits:
- Obtains vital signs and assist LIPs with physical exams and medical procedures
- Works with the team to review diagnostic testing, labs, and consult results, to collaboratively recognize abnormal results/problematic trends and coordinate required interventions
- Assures accurate collection of required specimens and research data
- Accurately documents patient care/contact in a timely fashion
- Maintains individual patient flow sheets, medication lists, and problem lists
This position is an outpatient pediatric clinic nursing job with a focus on facilitating clinical research. In addition to the above role description and responsibilities, this position will be:
- Assists with data entry
- Responsible for research sample labeling and shipping
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:
- Possession of Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university according to the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or four (4) years relevant experience in lieu of degree. Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency
- A minimum of two (2) years of recent nursing/clinical experience
- Ability to wear personal protective equipment
- Must be CPR certified or certifiable
- Highly effective organizational and planning, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work independently and/or collaboratively within a team setting
- Working knowledge of biological principles and scientific methods
- Working knowledge of International Conference on Harmonization/Good Clinical Practices (ICH/GCP) guidelines, clinical research concepts, ethics, processes, and clinical protocol implementation
- Pediatric nursing experience
- Ability to work required schedule and 100% on-site
- Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates with these desired skills will be given preferential consideration:
- Nursing case management
- Experience in the fields of infectious disease and/or immunology
