Primary responsibility is supporting installation, maintenance, and fabrication activities for NASA Communications Division (NASCOM)
Responsibilities
Responsibilities:
- Build, Installation, Modification and Wiring of equipment racks for the NASCOM network
- Provide fabrication, testing and installation of network cabling, including fiber optic and custom cable configuration
- Conduct an engineering review of all assigned mission communication service requests to determine the cost estimate, design, documentation required and the integration of communications systems into the NASCOM Mission Critical Network
- Support activities for connecting various sites to the NASCOM Mission Backbone Network, Mission Next Generation Voice (VOIP) service, Near Earth Network New Ka-Band Antenna installations in Alaska and Svalbard Norway for Intrusion Detec tion System and NASCOM Network
- Support for upgrade to the Mission Network Data Center at GSFC to include new equipment racks to accommodate equipment and cabling.
- Work with NOAA to install the N-WAVE connectivity at GSFC for distribution of data and voice to their facilities worldwide
- Perform system planning, design, installation, integration, and documentation for the IP Operational Network (IONet) and other networks that comprise the NASA Communication Network and the NASA Integrated Services Network for mission support
Knowledge of:
- Extensive knowledge in the interpretation of electrical and mechanical drawings, wire lists, schematics, and harness routing techniques.
- Experience with prototype manufacturing, wire wrapping, printed circuit board assembly, fiber optic cable termination and surface mount devices
- Juniper, Bay Networks, 3Com, and Cisco routers, switches, hubs, and associated equipment to implement data, voice, video, and telecommunications networks.
