Post Doctoral Fellow, Zombie HIV Research
Job ID: req2662
Employee Type: exempt full-time
Division: Applied & Development Research Program
Facility: Frederick: Ft Detrick
Location: PO Box B, Frederick, MD 21702 USA
The Frederick National Laboratory is a Federally Funded Research and Development Center (FFRDC) sponsored by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and operated by Leidos Biomedical Research, Inc. The lab addresses some of the most urgent and intractable problems in the biomedical sciences in cancer and AIDS, drug development and first-in-human clinical trials, applications of nanotechnology in medicine, and rapid response to emerging threats of infectious diseases.
Accountability, Compassion, Collaboration, Dedication, Integrity and Versatility; it's the FNL way.
Position Overview:
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Laboratory of Human Retrovirology and Immunoinformatics (LHRI) has collaborated with the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) and supported their clinical studies for patients infected with HIV, SARS-Cov2 or other viruses. LHRI was the first to demonstrate the potent anti-viral activity of Interleukin-27 (IL-27) and the potent Interferon inducer of Ku70, a DNA repair protein. We also maintain the Database for Annotation, Visualization and Integrated Discovery (DAVID) (https://david.ncifcrf.gov/).
Recently, LHRI initiated a study of the function of defective HIV, Zombie HIV (Proc Natl Acad Sci U S A. 2020;117(7):3704-3710. doi: 10.1073/pnas.1917876117) in the infected cells. We are looking for a passionate scientist who will be dedicated to this challenging project.
