Post Doctoral Fellow, Computational
Job ID: req2736
Employee Type: exempt full-time
Division: Basic Science Program
Facility: Frederick: Ft Detrick
Location: PO Box B, Frederick, MD 21702 USA
The Frederick National Laboratory is a Federally Funded Research and Development Center (FFRDC) sponsored by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and operated by Leidos Biomedical Research, Inc. The lab addresses some of the most urgent and intractable problems in the biomedical sciences in cancer and AIDS, drug development and first-in-human clinical trials, applications of nanotechnology in medicine, and rapid response to emerging threats of infectious diseases.
Accountability, Compassion, Collaboration, Dedication, Integrity and Versatility; it's the FNL way.
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION:
The Basic Science Program (BSP) pursues independent, multidisciplinary research programs in basic or applied molecular biology, immunology, retrovirology, cancer biology, or human genetics. Research efforts and support are an integral part of the Center for Cancer Research (CCR) at the Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research (FNLCR). This position is in the laboratory of Dr. Ruth Nussinov, a preimminent computational structural biologist.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
A computationally strong candidate is required for a postdoctoral project at the Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research involving simulations of oncogenic proteins aiming to figure out their activation mechanisms, the actions of their driver mutations, and signaling. The position requires experience and proficiency in high performance, extensive molecular dynamics simulations, a good grasp of fundamental physical principles and their applications in biological systems to capture the behavior of proteins in full atomic detail and at very fine temporal resolution to decipher functional mechanisms of proteins and uncover the structural basis for disease. A record of publications with first authorship papers in reputable journals is also required. Postdoctoral fellows participate in all phases of a research, interpretation of results, and preparation of publications or presentations, review manuscripts with supervisor, attend and participate in meetings and seminars.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:
Equal Opportunity Employer (EOE) | Minority/Female/Disabled/Veteran (M/F/D/V) | Drug Free Workplace (DFW)
