Scientist I
Job ID: req3579
Employee Type: exempt full-time
Division: Basic Science Program
Facility: Frederick: Ft Detrick
Location: PO Box B, Frederick, MD 21702 USA
The Frederick National Laboratory is a Federally Funded Research and Development Center (FFRDC) sponsored by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and operated by Leidos Biomedical Research, Inc. The lab addresses some of the most urgent and intractable problems in the biomedical sciences in cancer and AIDS, drug development and first-in-human clinical trials, applications of nanotechnology in medicine, and rapid response to emerging threats of infectious diseases.
Accountability, Compassion, Collaboration, Dedication, Integrity and Versatility; it's the FNL way.
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Basic Science Program (BSP) pursues independent, multidisciplinary research in basic and applied molecular biology, immunology, retrovirology, cancer biology, and human genetics. Research efforts are an integral part of the Center for Cancer Research (CCR) at the Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research (FNLCR). Research efforts related to this position will be performed under the scientific guidance of Dr. Joel Schneider, head, Chemical Synthesis Group and Chief, Chemical Biology Laboratory. The Chemical Synthesis Group provides expertise, consultation, and experience in areas of chemical synthesis and purification. The Group also performs experiments (NMR, LCMS, etc.) to assess molecular identity and purity (quality control) of small molecules purchased from vendors.
KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES
The Scientist I will provide research support in the areas of chemical synthesis and purification to the NCI Intramural community. This support makes available a means to access chemical technology for those groups which would not otherwise be capable of exploring these aspects of their research. This work will require custom synthesis of non-commercially available molecules at milligram to gram scale, affording tools to probe biochemical pathways/mechanisms of action, and biological studies ranging from in vitro to animal studies.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Commitment to Diversity
All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to sex, race, ethnicity, age, national origin, citizenship, religion, physical or mental disability, medical condition, genetic information, pregnancy, family structure, marital status, ancestry, domestic partner status, sexual orientation, gender identity or expression, veteran or military status, or any other basis prohibited by law. Leidos will also consider for employment qualified applicants with criminal histories consistent with relevant laws.
