The lab addresses some of the most urgent and intractable problems in the biomedical sciences in cancer and AIDS, drug development and first-in-human clinical trials, applications of nanotechnology in medicine, and rapid response to emerging threats of infectious diseases.

Accountability, Compassion, Collaboration, Dedication, Integrity and Versatility; it's the FNL way.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The Laboratory of Human Retrovirology and Immunoinformatics (LHRI: former LHR), Applied/ Developmental Research Directorate ( https://david.ncifcrf.gov ) has investigated drug resistance in people living with HIV/AIDS (PLWHA) in the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID) clinical therapy since 2001 to define salvage or de novo therapies. LHRI has also studied the function of novel anti-viral cytokines (Interluekine-27 and Interferon Lambda-1) and the innate immune responses for developing novel immunotherapies.

KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES

This Post Doctoral Fellow will work under the supervision of the lab head, Dr. Tomozumi Imamichi, and study the regulation of HIV infection and replication in primary cells (macrophages, T cells, and dendritic cells). In this position, the candidate will use LHRI-discovered none-coding RNAs, a combination of cytokines, or extracellular vesicles as replication enhancers or suppressors and researches the molecular mechanism of the regulation of the processing of HIV GagPol polyprotein and virus release, utilizing molecular biology and immunological techniques with the state-of-the-art technology, e.g., single-cell (Sc) proteomics, Sc-RNA seq, and NS300. Postdoctoral Fellowship appointments are made for one year, renewable annually, with the manager's approval. We anticipate a period of up to three years for this position.

(Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education). Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency
  • Standard molecular and cellular biological skills (qRT-PCR , WB , ELISA, cell culture, etc.)
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates with these desired skills will be given preferential consideration:
  • Experience handling of replication competent viruses.
  • Isolation of extracellular vesicles or lentivirus particles
  • Biological study of plasma membrane, and characterization of lipid/cholesterol
