The Frederick National Laboratory is a Federally Funded Research and Development Center (FFRDC) sponsored by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and operated by Leidos Biomedical Research, Inc. The lab addresses some of the most urgent and intractable problems in the biomedical sciences in cancer and AIDS, drug development and first-in-human clinical trials, applications of nanotechnology in medicine, and rapid response to emerging threats of infectious diseases.

Accountability, Compassion, Collaboration, Dedication, Integrity and Versatility; it's the FNL way.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The Cancer Research Technology Program (CRTP) develops and implements emerging technology, cancer biology expertise and research capabilities to accomplish NCI research objectives. The CRTP is an outward-facing, multi-disciplinary hub purposed to enable the external cancer research community and provides dedicated support to NCI's intramural Center for Cancer Research (CCR). The dedicated units provide expertise in electron microscopy, protein characterization, mass spectrometry, protein expression, optical microscopy, and genomics. These research efforts are an integral part of CCR at the Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research (FNLCR), where CRTP scientists work collaboratively with intramural NCI investigators to provide research technologies and expertise.

KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES

The NCI Center for Cancer Research (CCR) Single Cell Analysis Facility is recruiting a motivated Scientist I to provide support for advanced single cell and spatial profiling technologies to CCR Investigators. This individual will work closely with other members of the Single Cell Analysis Facility team to implement assays and optimize support for a wide range of both basic and translational research projects driven by CCR Investigators.

The Scientist I will:
  • Provide project support on advanced single cell methods in support of CCR Investigators
  • Contribute to experimental design consultations and advise on sample preparation methods for spatial profiling and single cell sequencing
  • Work with other SCAF staff members to design and carry out experiments to test and validate emerging platforms and assays
  • Work with other SCAF staff members to provide training and education in single cell and spatial methods

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • Possession of Doctoral degree from an accredited college or university according to the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) appropriate to biomedical research (additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education). Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency
  • Strong background in cell and molecular biology, with familiarity of current single cell and spatial methods
  • Experience in next generation sequencing, including quality control and library preparation
  • Familiarity with handling of diverse sample types such as single cell suspensions, solid tissue, and tissue blocks / sections
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a security clearance

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Knowledge and background experience in cancer biology and immunology
  • Experience with single cell sequencing and spatial profiling methods
  • Experience handling tissue embedded OCT and paraffin blocks
  • Experience working in a core facility or other team-based environment
  • Detail-oriented, and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously
  • Demonstrated ability to learn new technologies quickly
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
