The Frederick National Laboratory is a Federally Funded Research and Development Center (FFRDC) sponsored by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and operated by Leidos Biomedical Research, Inc. The lab addresses some of the most urgent and intractable problems in the biomedical sciences in cancer and AIDS, drug development and first-in-human clinical trials, applications of nanotechnology in medicine, and rapid response to emerging threats of infectious diseases.

The Clinical Services Program's primary mission is to perform sequential studies using samples obtained from patients with cancer, AIDS, chronic granulomatous disease or other diseases associated with immunologic dysfunction, as well as to monitor viral load in patients with HIV.

The Research Technician position would provide blood processing support to an NIH-funded clinical project as part

of the BioProcessing and Trial Logistics group (BPTL). The BPTL is part of the Clinical Services Program (CSP) within

the Applied/Developmental Research Directorate (ADRD) at the Frederick National Laboratory for Cancer Research

(FNLCR).

KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Responsible for the receipt and processing of fresh whole human blood, saliva and urine. Samples are

unpacked, accessioned, processed and entered into the specimen tracking database.

Responsible for performing work according to Standard Operating Procedures in a BL-2 environment

BASIC QUARLIFICATIONS

Possession of a Bachelor degree from an accredited college or university (according to CHEA).

Experience may be substituted for the required education. Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S.

equivalency.

Prior experience with aeseptic technique.

Prior experience using tabletop centrifuges, micropipets, and serologic pipets

Prior experience with basic laboratory maintenance activities to maintain eyewash stations, freezers, and

supply ordering records.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Prior experience working with a specimen inventory database

Prior experience working with human biological specimens

Prior IATA or DOT certification
