PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Facilities Maintenance and Engineering (FME) mission is to support the NCI at Frederick in their mission to cure cancer and AIDS. FME is responsible for the physical campus - its research laboratory space, administrative space, the infrastructure that supports the buildings, and the landscape that surrounds them. In addition, we are responsible for managing, planning, designing, and construction management of renovations at the FNLCR.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Responsible for the preventative maintenance, installing, repairing, modifying, testing, and troubleshooting of electrical services, circuits, systems, fixtures, controls, and equipment
KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Performs industrial electrical work on such items as incineration, fluorescent and germicidal fixtures, generating equipment and controls, scientific equipment, solid state electronic sensing controls and solid-state motor controls
- Works on equipment carrying up to 600 VAC
- Assisting with the Electrical Preventative Maintenance for the site
- Visit's worksites to assist in developing work plans, time requirements, power sources and the need for branch circuits, outlets and additional electrical fixtures
- Installs lines, outlet boxes, fuse panels and related electrical equipment
- Maintains and repairs electrical laboratory and technical equipment
- Occasionally working beyond normal duty hours, including weekends and holidays
- Will be required to be a part of a rotational on call schedule for unexpected 24-hour call ins
- Contributes to the overall success of Operation and Maintenance Department by performing other essential duties and responsibilities as assigned
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Maryland State Journeyman license or formal training in the electrical field equivalent to a four (4) year accredited apprentice program
- In addition to educational requirements, a minimum of five (5) years of craft-related experience
- Must have no more than three (3) demerit points in the previous twelve (12) months or five (5) demerit points in the preceding thirty-six (36) months as determined by Leidos Biomed Use of Government Owned or Leased Vehicles Policy
- Ability to read blueprints and schematics
- Experience in safety practices in the trade
- Ability to work independently using established trade techniques and work methods
- Ability to routinely lift and carry up to 50lbs
- Ability to walk, stand, climb stairs and ladders, bend, stoop, and to work in confined areas and potential exposure to particulates
- Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates with these desired skills will be given preferential consideration:
- Master Electricians License
- Experience in a wide range installing, maintaining, and repairing industrial electrical equipment and systems
- Knowledge of electrical components of scientific/laboratory equipment
- Knowledge of National Electrical Codes, National Electrical Safety Codes; basic principles and theories of electricity; safety practices in the electrical trade
- Experience with voltmeters, amp meters, watt meters and other multi-amp testing equipment
- Experience replacing bearings, brushes, rings, contacts, and armatures of electric motors to over 400-horsepower
