PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The AIDS and Cancer Virus Program (ACVP) is an integrated, multidisciplinary program that performs cutting-edge research in an effort to improve our understanding of HIV-associated disease, including studies intended to facilitate the improved diagnosis, prevention and treatment of HIV infection and AIDS. The Program consists of several research Sections headed by Principal Investigators, whose work spans from fundamental molecular virology through in vitro studies, to in vivo studies in non-human primate (NHP) models. The ACVP also has Research Support Core Cores that provide critical and often unique technical support capabilities to ACVP laboratories and other laboratories within the NCI and NIH, and to extramural investigators.

KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES

The ACVP is looking for a Research Technician to support a specific Office of AIDS Research funded roject, entitled "Using modified Artificial Thymic Organoid (Mod-ATO) system to generate SIV-specific engineered T cells with improved potential of Ag-specific responsiveness and in-vivo persistence" under the leadership of Dr. Yichuan Wang in the Retroviral Pathogenesis Section of the ACVP. The goal of this study is to develop, optimize, and apply a novel rhesus macaque Artificial Thymic Organoid culture system to develop novel engineered T cell clones that can target persistent virus reservoirs, an important step toward more definitive treatment of HIV infection. The successful candidate will be able to work in a team-oriented environment, meticulously follow detailed protocols and instructions, and keep careful records. The successful candidate will utilize standard cell biology, immunology and molecular biology techniques including, but not limited to molecular cloning, tissue culture, ELISA and using Microsoft Office (Word, Powerpoint and Excel) for data summary and presentation.

The key responsibilities of the applicant will be:
  • observing and learning the techniques related to T cell engineering
  • setting up and maintaining three-dimensional cell cultures
  • performing in-vitro immunoassays
  • summarizing and presenting data

To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:

  • Possession of a B.S. degree in Virology, Microbiology, Molecular Biology, Immunology, or related field from an accredited college or university according to the Council for Higher Education Accreditation. (Additional qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education). Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency.
  • One-year experience with tissue culture, T-cell engineering, and/or artificial organoid culture systems.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a time-sensitive manner.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates with these desired skills will be given preferential consideration:
