The Frederick National Laboratory is a Federally Funded Research and Development Center (FFRDC) sponsored by the National Cancer Institute (NCI) and operated by Leidos Biomedical Research, Inc. The lab addresses some of the most urgent and intractable problems in the biomedical sciences in cancer and AIDS, drug development and first-in-human clinical trials, applications of nanotechnology in medicine, and rapid response to emerging threats of infectious diseases.
Accountability, Compassion, Collaboration, Dedication, Integrity and Versatility; it's the FNL way.
PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Laboratory of Human Retrovirology and Immunoinformatics (LHRI) is composed of three sections: the Basic, the translational, and the Bioinformatics research sections, and has collaborated with the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID). LHRI has supported NIAID clinical studies for patients infected with HIV, HCV, SARS-Cov2, and other viruses. During studies, LHRI has discovered Interleukin-27 (IL-27) as an anti-viral protein, Ku70: a DNA repair protein, as a Type-III Interferon inducing cytosolic DNA receptor, and novel IL-27-inducing anti-viral micro RNAs (miRNAs). LHRI carried over the Database for Annotation, Visualization and Integrated Discovery (DAVID) (https://david.ncifcrf.gov/) from LIB and has maintained/ improved it to support users. The Basic research section is looking for a young, passionate scientist who will dedicate this challenging project.
