PROGRAM DESCRIPTION
The Cancer Research Technology Program (CRTP) develops and implements emerging technology, cancer biology expertise and research capabilities to accomplish NCI research objectives. The CRTP is an outward-facing, multi-disciplinary hub purposed to enable the external cancer research community. A major focus of the CRTP is the NCI RAS Initiative with the goal to discover new therapeutic interventions against RAS-driven cancers. In addition, the CRTP hosts the Protein Expression Laboratory's Cloning & Nucleic Acids Group (CNG). The role of the CNG is to produce recombinant DNA molecules to support cell line generation and protein production efforts across the PEL. The CNG supports efforts in the NCI RAS Initiative as well as across NCI and NIH intramural groups and produces DNA for use in bacterial, insect, and mammalian expression systems, as well as production of DNA for cell line development using lentiviral systems.

The salary range posted is a full-time equivalent salary and will vary depending on scheduled hours for part time positions

- Produce recombinant DNA molecules to support cell line generation and protein production efforts across the Protein Expression Laboratory (PEL).
- Supervise CNG technical staff, design and implement cloning strategies, and ensure quality control of DNA reagents.
- Produce DNA for use in bacterial, insect, and mammalian expression systems, as well as production of DNA for cell line development using lentiviral systems.
- Technology development efforts within the realm of recombinant DNA.
- Support technology development projects across the PEL with troubleshooting and DNA-related advice.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:
- Possession of bachelor's degree in biology or a field related to biomedical research from an accredited college/university according to the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or four (4) years relevant experience in lieu of degree. Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency
- In addition to the education requirement, a minimum of 8 years of experience, including experience in molecular biology and protein biochemistry techniques and the ability to carry out independent research
- Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates with these desired skills will be given preferential consideration:
- Experience with Gateway cloning technology
- Experience with DNA Extraction
- Experience with SnapGene
- Experience with PCR
