The Frederick National Laboratory is operated by Leidos Biomedical Research, Inc. The lab addresses some of the most urgent and intractable problems in the biomedical sciences in cancer and AIDS, drug development and first-in-human clinical trials, applications of nanotechnology in medicine, and rapid response to emerging threats of infectious diseases.

PRORAM DESCRIPTION
The Cancer Research Technology Program (CRTP) develops and implements emerging technology, cancer biology expertise and research capabilities to accomplish NCI research objectives. The CRTP is an outward-facing, multi-disciplinary hub purposed to enable the external cancer research community. A major focus of the CRTP is the NCI RAS Initiative with the goal to discover new therapeutic interventions against RAS-driven cancers. In addition, the CRTP hosts the Nanotechnology Characterization Laboratory (NCL) which performs and standardizes preclinical efficacy and toxicity testing of nanoparticles intended for cancer therapeutics and diagnostics, and the Antibody Characterization Lab (ACL) which characterizes monoclonal antibodies or other renewable affinity binding reagents for use in cancer related research. CRTP scientists also work collaboratively with intramural NCI investigators to provide research technologies and expertise.

The posted pay range for this job is a general guideline and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include, but are not limited to, responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities as well as internal equity, and alignment with market data.
The salary range posted is a full-time equivalent salary and will vary depending on scheduled hours for part time positions

KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES
- Sample preparation for cryo-EM, including grid preparation and grid screening.
- Protein expression in various host organisms and purification.
- Maintaining and working with mammalian and bacterial cell cultures.
- Performing biochemical assays to assess protein quality and stability.
- Using and developing custom scripts or pipelines for data analysis, including cryo-EM processing.
- Documenting experimental procedures and results in lab notebooks or electronic systems.
- Collaborating with interdisciplinary teams on structural biology projects.
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:
- Possession of a PhD degree in Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Structural Biology, or a related field from an accredited college or university according to the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency.
- Hands-on experience with protein purification techniques.
- Experience in cell culture (mammalian or bacterial).
- Familiarity with basic biochemical assays (SDS-PAGE, Western blot, spectrophotometry, etc.).
- Experience with data analysis tools, scripting, or programming.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates with these desired skills will be given preferential consideration:
- Experience in cryo-EM sample preparation and grid optimization.
- Proficiency in structural biology software.
- Prior experience in working with challenging protein targets.
- Ability to develop scripts or automate data processing workflows.
JOB HAZARDS
- This position is subject to working with or have potential for exposure to infectious material, requiring medical clearance and immunizations.
- This position is subject to working with radioactive material and requires training to become an approved radiation worker.
