PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

The Facilities Maintenance and Engineering (FME) mission is to support the NCI at Frederick in their mission to cure cancer and AIDS. FME is responsible for the physical campus - its research laboratory space, administrative space, the infrastructure that supports the buildings, and the landscape that surrounds them. In addition, we are responsible for managing, planning, designing, and construction management of renovations at the FNLCR.

KEY ROLES/RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Performs inspections and maintenance on electrical infrastructure installed in industrial plants, institutional and commercial buildings
  • Responsible for the preventative maintenance, installing, repairing, modifying, testing, and troubleshooting of electrical services, circuits, systems, fixtures, controls, and equipment
  • Use infrared cameras and other thermographic equipment to inspect electrical, mechanical, and building systems for temperature anomalies and potential issues
  • Works on equipment carrying up to 600 VAC
  • Visits worksites to assist in developing work plans, time requirements, power sources and the need for branch circuits, outlets and additional electrical fixtures
  • Create detailed reports based on inspection findings, including visual images from the infrared camera, temperature readings, and analysis of any issues found. These reports help in decision-making for repairs and preventive maintenance.
  • Recommend or assist in planning controlled equipment shutdowns for repairs or maintenance to prevent equipment failure or downtime.
  • Ensure strict adherence to safety guidelines and procedures, including the use of personal protective equipment (PPE) when accessing sensitive or hazardous areas. This includes shower-in, shower-out (SISO) protocols. Training will be provided.
  • Occasionally works beyond normal duty hours, including weekends and holidays.
  • Contributes to the overall success of FME by performing other essential duties and other responsibilities as assigned

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

To be considered for this position, you must minimally meet the knowledge, skills, and abilities listed below:
  • Possession of a High School Diploma or equivalent. Foreign degrees must be evaluated for U.S. equivalency.
  • Maryland State Journeyman license and a minimum of four (4) years of craft-related experience.
  • Level II Thermographer Certification
  • Trained on NFPA 70B Maintenance Standard.
  • Trained on NFPA 70E Arc Flash.
  • Completion of OSHA 10 training.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Ability to maintain accurate records of inspections, repairs, and maintenance activities for future reference and to track the performance of equipment over time.
  • This position requires the ability to routinely lift and carry up to 50 lbs. The work may involve walking, standing, climbing stairs, bending, stooping, and working in confined areas, and may have potential exposure to adverse weather conditions, hazardous materials, including but not limited to biological, radiological, and chemical hazards, as well as particulates, vapors, or noisy environments.
  • Daily walking across campus to access various electrical equipment and systems is required for this position.
  • This position is considered safety-sensitive and will be subject to random drug testing per the Leidos Biomedical Research Drug Free Workplace Program.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

Candidates with these desired skills will be given preferential consideration:
  • Master Electricians License
  • Experience in a wide range installing, maintaining, and repairing industrial electrical equipment and systems
  • Knowledge of National Electrical Codes, National Electrical Safety Codes; basic principles and theories of electricity; safety practices in the electrical trade

The salary range posted is a full-time equivalent salary and will vary depending on scheduled hours for part time positions
