Overview
This is a professional technical position working at a client's location. The Systems Engineer will participate and perform a variety of activities, including defining requirements, assessing server, storage, and infrastructure sizing, analyzing hardware sizing to meet requirements, and designing load balancing and clustering solutions according to architecture standards.

Responsibilities
The Systems Engineer is responsible for hands on solution development, validation, and technical integration efforts. The candidate will work with other resources or delivery teams to build component solutions or major solutions of various sizes and complexities. Responsibilities include:
• Determining business needs and evaluating existing network infrastructure and systems
• Identify system data, hardware, or software components required to meet user needs.
• Identify and recommend cost effective solutions for lowering operational costs, streamlining processes, and improving the overall operational environment.
• Perform and /or direct the analysis, development, and operation of complete computer systems.
• Document design specifications, installation instructions, and other system-related information.
• Provide project estimates, design concepts, or design changes, develop and implement secure systems to customers or installation teams.
• Ability to design, develop and implement exceptional customized VMware solutions under tight deadlines and accomplish project goals.
• Performing technical implementation tasks ensuring work is delivered on schedule. Communicate with staff or clients to understand specific system requirements.
• Defining multiple virtual servers on a single host machine.
• Optimizing hardware and software to enable VMware integration.
• Virtualizing Windows servers and connecting them to networks and clouds.
• Designing and implementing virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI).
• Installing operating systems and service packs, as well as security patches and bug fixes.
• Troubleshooting and resolving VMware environment issues.
• Documenting VMware processes.
• Staying informed on developments in VMware technologies and products.
• Provide technical guidance and/or support for the development or troubleshooting of systems.
• Collaborate with engineers to select appropriate design solutions or ensure the compatibility of system components.
• Evaluate current or emerging technologies to consider factors such as cost, portability, compatibility, or usability.
• Investigate system component suitability for specified purposes and make recommendations regarding component use.
• Perform ongoing hardware and software maintenance operations, including installing or upgrading hardware or software.
• Configure servers to meet functional specifications.
• Develop project plans and schedules.
• Define and analyze objectives, scope, issues, or organizational impact of information systems.
• Develop system engineering, software installation, system integration, or distributed system architectures.
• Design and conduct hardware or software tests.
• Establish functional or system standards to ensure operational requirements, quality requirements, and design constraints are addressed.
• Evaluate existing systems to determine effectiveness and suggest changes to meet organizational requirements.
• Research, test, or verify proper functioning of software patches and fixes.
• Prepare and present proposals and cost / benefit analysis for system solutions.
• Communicate project information through presentations, technical reports or white papers.
• Complete models and simulations, using manual or automated tools, to analyze or predict system performance under different operating conditions.
• Provides subject matter expertise and/or leads tier 3 level support on critical production issues.
Qualifications
Qualifications and Skills (include required education, travel, clearances & certifications)
Must have a high degree of technical knowledge related to hardware and software.
• Bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, computer programming, or similar or comparable work experience is required.
• VMware Certified Professional (VCP) required.
• Five or more years expertise administrating VMware vSphere is required.
• Experience with VMware Horizon View and VMware vRealize Operations Manager is highly desired.
• Knowledge of various infrastructure technologies, including Fibre Channel, Ethernet, DNS, AD, etc. is highly desired.
• Windows Server Operating Systems (Windows Enterprise Server 2008/2012)
• Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, etc.) to create and modify documentation.
• Effective problem solving
Must have strong team skills and a customer-support background handling complex hardware and software systems. Also, must have excellent computer and customer service skills; strong written and verbal communication skills; efficient organizational and time management skills; strong problem-solving skills: and the ability to multi-task in a high-volume, fast-paced environment. Must be a self-starter, able to work and learn independently, in addition to being a team player. Can-do attitude and time management skills are critical. Capable of working remote or on-site and can effectively interact with a virtual team in multiple geographic locations. Availability to occasionally work outside of normal business hours for production emergencies and system maintenance.
Hardware: An understanding of server hardware; routers/switches; Fiber Channel switches/HBAs; SANs.
Protocols: TCP/IP suite; OSI model; DHCP; Ethernet; WAN/LAN; WLAN and WINS; DNS; VLAN.
Software: VMware vSphere & Horizon View and MS Windows Server 2012/2016/2019 required. Windows 10 and Red Hat Linux a plus.
