Job Description:

We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) Technologist I to join our patient care team. In this role, you will work independently to perform a variety of routine MRI procedures and provide direct assistance to physicians during diagnostic and special MR procedures. You will play a key role in delivering exceptional patient care while adhering to safety and quality standards.

Key Responsibilities
  • Perform routine MRI and MRA procedures with a focus on patient safety and comfort.
  • Assist physicians during diagnostic and special procedures, including sterile technique support.
  • Optimize imaging protocols to enhance image quality and patient experience.
  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team using AIDET and MANAGE UP techniques.
  • Maintain compliance with MR safety policies and hospital standards.
  • Participate in quality control, safety reporting, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Accurately document procedures and enter charges at the time of service.
  • Support department goals through peer accountability and active participation in team projects.

Qualifications
  • Completion of an MRI training program, including the UTMB MR Training Program.
  • 0+ years of experience required.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
  • MRI certification or registry-eligible at the time of hire.
  • Registry-eligible candidates must obtain MRI certification (ARRT or ARMRIT) within 6 months of hire.

Skills & Abilities
  • Proficient in English communication (verbal, written, and reading).
  • Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills.
  • Basic computer proficiency, including hospital and radiology information systems.
  • Ability to adapt to multiple priorities and work independently.
  • Demonstrates critical thinking and proactive problem-solving.

Working Conditions
  • Work attire: Scrubs.
  • Equipment used: MR units (various vendors), contrast injectors, EHR, PACS.
  • May require travel to other UTMB campuses.
  • Participation in call, weekend, holiday, and emergency rotations is required.
  • Physical requirements include the ability to push/pull 50 lbs, walk long distances, and stand/sit continuously for 60 minutes.
  • Exposure to occupational hazards such as communicable diseases, radiation, and hazardous medications.
