About the Role
The Senior Database Administrator is responsible for the uptime, performance and overall health of all database systems and associated infrastructure in a 24 x 7 environment. The primary focus will be administration of SQL Server in both cloud and on-premises locations. Additional responsibilities and opportunities will span a number of different database technologies, including NoSQL and cloud native databases. Core responsibilities primarily include installation/implementation, backup/recovery, high availability, disaster recovery, troubleshooting, performance tuning, capacity planning, migration, ongoing maintenance, security and on-call support. The Senior DBA will work in coordination with team DBAs as well as other Operations teams to achieve business objectives with an eye toward budgetary considerations. The SQL Server DBA must possess the ability to learn new data centric technologies and associated platforms to meet current and future business objectives. The ideal candidate will have the ability to troubleshoot, and problem solve with a strong sense of urgency and minimal supervision.

What You'll Do
- Act as the focal point and go-to-person for all aspects of data centric technologies
- Identify architectural needs and improvements and champion implementation when/where appropriate.
- System development and testing
- Participate in or lead the discovery phase for requirements gathering
- Assist with builds of physical and cloud environments: hardware, virtual and software installation
- Act as an intermediary between development teams, business and project management
- Address day-to-day and longer-term technical issues and problems
- Maintain positive, collaborative partnerships
- Use comprehensive face-to-face and written communication skills to convey abstract ideas to a diverse group of business, technical and non-technical contributors
- Act as a mentor and guide for team members of all levels, both technical and non-technical
- Capable of making solid decisions while under pressure and in the face of conflicting alternatives
- Be flexible and adaptive in providing solutions to issues of varying priority and severity
- Provide accurate estimates on resource needs, set schedules based on documented requirements and assessments of resources and contribute to budget and costing estimates
- Responsible for the maintenance and administration of all database resources in production and QA environments to include the following:
- Maintain archived data on appropriate storage device
- Admin users and maintain database security
- Control and monitor user database access and permissions
- Monitor database performance
- Monitor disk usage, filesystems, systems processes and memory usage
- Ensure that standards for database, software and are meet
- SQL Performance tuning (SQL Profiler and 3 rd party monitoring/performance applications.)
- Maintain archived data on appropriate storage device
- Participate in weekly on-call rotation.
- Monitoring systems, responding to alerts and proactively respond to issues to meet SLA requirements.
- Managing and adhering to systems life cycle processes and best practices.
- Deploying proprietary applications and systems patches and upgrades.
- Participation in release and version management.
- Reporting systems performance metrics and trends.
- Ensure pertinent procedural documents are accurate and current.
- Ensure that discrepancies, failures, concerns are investigated/resolved in a timely manner.
- Facilitate budgetary review, reporting and recommendations to Senior Staff.
Qualifications & Experience
- 5+ years MS SQL Server Administration
- Expertise supporting Windows 2016/2019/2022
- Linux administration
- Experience with Failover Clustering and other High Availability solutions
- Ability to implement Disaster Recovery / Business Continuity objectives
- Advanced T-SQL capabilities, index/statistics management
- Expert performance troubleshooting skills
- Experience working in various cloud platforms, notably AWS and Azure
- AWS Console Management
- Experience in a 24/7/365, multi-tiered production environment.
- On-Call Rotation (approximately 1 week a month)
- Ability to take ownership of an issue, problem, or project and see it through to completion.
- Necessary skills include flexibility, ability to work under tight deadlines, ability to handle multiple tasks through prioritization and time management skills, excellent communication, exceptional collaboration and organizational skills.
- Thorough understanding of the SDLC and project management.
- Experience with enterprise systems management\monitoring tools such as SQL Diagnostic Manager
- Ability to design and implement solutions with sensitivity toward project timelines and budgets.
- 5+ years' experience installing, configuring, monitoring, maintaining, and supporting database technologies
- Microsoft certification desired.
- AWS certifications desired.
- Must have a B.S. or a B.A. college degree or commensurate work experience.
- Possession of sufficient credit to facilitate travel if and when required.
