ABOUT THE GROUP:

The Network Industries Strategies ("NIS") group at FTI Consulting uses economic, financial, and network modeling to analyze complex issues involving pricing, valuation, and costs of service across the spectrum of network industries. It develops fundamental analyses to support investments, transactions, conflict resolution, and public policy positions. Our experts provide deep understanding of industries, markets, and regulatory policy and frequently develop and present expert testimony in litigation or in front of policymakers involving prices, service, economic impacts, and other contractual or regulatory issues. We have extensive industry expertise involving railroads, natural gas, pipelines, electric power generation, transmission, fiscal policy, macroeconomics, and economic impacts.

ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY:

A Consultant is responsible for managing, processing, and analyzing information to develop solutions for external clients. In addition, the position requires the development of written reports explaining the procedures employed. A successful individual in the position will be able to work independently and to take initiative in solving problems that are faced on a day-to-day basis, continually striving to ensure quality output that can withstand the scrutiny of litigation.

PRIMARY DUTIES:
  • Perform quantitative analyses and conduct studies as required by internal and external clients
  • Develop and manage database systems from large datasets
  • Develop proficiency in modeling frameworks, either maintained by NIS or by third-parties
  • Assist others in defining data requirements for various efforts
  • Communicate findings with clients and external stakeholders
  • Write memoranda to describe the procedures employed to complete tasks and to summarize the results of research or analysis
  • Maintain workpapers if they are deemed required
  • Maintain time and expenses
  • Travel on periodic out-of-town assignments
  • Other duties as assigned
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Economics, Business, Information Systems, Mathematics, Operations Research, or Management Sciences
  • 1-2 years of relevant experience is preferred, internships will be taken into consideration
  • Consulting, professional services or client facing experience
PREFERRED SKILLS:
  • Extensive experience with computer software packages, such as SQL, Tableau, Excel, and Access
  • Experience with geographic information systems (GIS)
  • Experience with PLEXOS, REMI, or IMPLAN
  • Understanding or interest in railroads, energy, other network industries, or public policy are preferred but not required
  • Ability to work independently
  • Close attention to detail
  • The ability to communicate succinctly both orally and in writing
  • The ability to establish priorities and handle multiple projects at the same time
  • The ability to work on time-sensitive, quality-sensitive projects
